  • Equality Statement

At St James’ CE First School and Nursery, we are committed to living out our Christian vision and ensuring that every member of our school community is valued, respected and encouraged to flourish. We strive to create a nurturing environment where everyone is supported to make great choices, be their best and achieve their full potential.

We will abide by the provisions of the Equality Act 2010 and have developed this Equality Statement to help us meet our Public Sector Equality Duty. This duty requires public bodies to play their part in creating a fairer society by eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and fostering positive relationships between people from different backgrounds.

At St James’, we are committed to ensuring equal treatment and opportunity for all pupils, staff, governors, families and members of the wider community. We celebrate diversity and recognise that every individual is uniquely valued as part of God's family. We work proactively to eliminate discrimination, challenge prejudice and promote a culture of respect, dignity and inclusion.

Through our curriculum, collective worship and daily interactions, we encourage our children to make great choices, show kindness and responsibility, and be the very best version of themselves. We want every child and adult in our community to feel safe, welcomed and able to thrive.

The Equality Act 2010 identifies nine protected characteristics. People must not be treated unfairly because of any of these characteristics:

    • Age (employees)
    • Disability
    • Gender reassignment
    • Marriage and civil partnership (employees)
    • Pregnancy and maternity
    • Race
    • Religion or belief
    • Sex
    • Sexual orientation

By upholding these principles, St James’ CE First School and Nursery aims to be a community where everyone is treated with fairness, respect and dignity, and where all are encouraged to make great choices, be their best and let their light shine.
