  • What we get up to....

Your child is our priority. At St James' Nursery we have a wide and varied approach to ensuring your child's sessions are filled with fun, exploration and learning. We promote a philosophy by which children lead the learning.

    The Burrow

The Burrow room is for our youngest children, the Bunnies, where their sessions are filled with fun, exploration and learning. Whether this is through painting, puzzles or getting messy in the mud kitchen, we promote a philosophy by which children lead the learning.

Children enjoy action-packed sessions and have daily opportunities to explore our purpose-built Burrow garden, our Forest School and enjoy spotting nature on a walk-up to the outdoor classroom. Be sure to pack their wellies!

Using the Early Years Foundation Stage, experienced staff take a child-centred approach to making sure each child develops at their own rate.

We liaise with our parents to ensure that you know everything about their day and how you can best support their next steps.

Our teacher-led by expert EYFS staff cherish the impact they have on each and every child, interacting and teaching them as they play.

    The Den

For our 3-4 year olds, the Dormice, we have The Den, where the classroom environment is designed around meeting the needs, interests and stages of development of our preschool children. We create a calm and natural environment where the children are purposeful, confident and independent.

Transition into school and school readiness is at the forefront of our practitioners' minds. Both our phonics and maths programmes start in our Den classroom and children are well-prepared to start their formal learning journey in Reception.

Of course, play-centred learning remains throughout this phase and children continue to experience a hands-on and enquiry-based curriculum.

Days are filled with things to keep lively minds and bodies fully occupied. Children enjoy cooking, role -play and craft as well as fresh air in the Den garden and Forest School whatever the weather!

If you would like to see our Burrow and Den in action – please give us a call to book your tour!

Funded spaces are available, and we are happy to discuss the different options with you.
