Our Christian School
St James' CE First School and Nursery aims to serve our community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. We encourage an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promote Christian values through the experience our school offers to all its pupils.
Recognising its historic foundation, St James' CE First School will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at Parish and Diocesan level.
Collective worship (known as 'Worship Time') plays a very important role in the life of the school community. It is an opportunity to promote the Christian foundation of our school, to celebrate and support all aspects of school life and to provide time for calmness and reflection in what is always a busy, active day for our children.
Whilst our RE teaching is rooted in Christianity and the bible stories which children can learn life lessons from we also teach about other world faiths, particularly Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Islam and encourage children to see similarities and differences, fostering curiosity and respect. Mrs Hay is our school's RE champion.
St James' Pilgrims
This active pupil group, made up of children across the age range, work with Mrs Hay to shape the vision and values of our school. They are fully involved in all of our festival celebrations and are often involved in charity fundraisers sharing our kindness and compassion with those who need it most.
Reflecting our strong community links, we regularly welcome visitors from St James' Church and Alderholt Chapel to lead our Open the Book worship time and lead celebration worships during key Christian festivals such as Harvest, Christmas and Easter.
We are proud of our links with St James' Church and Alderholt Chapel. We have a strong relationship, working together to support all in our school and community.
