Our Forest School Adventure has begun...
We are so lucky at St James' to be set in a rural location, surrounded by trees, green spaces and even have our very own fox and badger sett!
Work is continually being undertaken to improve our outdoor learning areas so that we can offer all of our children, from our tiniest tots right through to our year fours, a full range of outdoor forest school activities and learning experiences.
Teaching children outdoors encourages curiosity and stimulates all the senses in a way that indoor learning simply can't do. Education research by King’s College London has found that children who spend time learning in natural environments perform better in academic studies. Exploring the natural world makes other school subjects, such as reading, mathematics, science (as well as many others!) more relevant and truly gets children excited about learning.
Our aim is to get outside for our learning as much as possible; Miss Cole is our outdoor learning champion who works with the children and the staff to get the activities and resources that they want and need.
We can’t wait to kick start the next phase of development, a fire pit for outdoor cooking.... so watch this space for ways in which you can get involved!
